When your truck tires are damaged, you may be forced to pull and wait for a mobile truck repair service to take care of your truck. This can slow down your freight delivery, so you are better off taking very good care of your truck tires so that they will last as long as possible.

Understanding the Truck Tire

Your truck tires are uniquely designed for a vehicle that is able to carry more than 10,000 pounds. Unlike other tires, they can travel for hundreds of thousands of miles before they can simply be retreated and placed on the road again. Commercial truck tires are designed to be repaired and reused, which makes them better for the environment and also helps keep costs down.

Regular Inspection is Necessary

For the commercial truck tires to last as long as possible, they should be inspected regularly to make sure that they are maintaining the appropriate pressure. In fact, you are required by law to inspect your truck's inflation pressure before beginning your trip.

Given the degree of service that commercial trucks are placed under, they need to be inspected using high-tech methods such as the use of x-rays and ultrasound. If the tire casing is still intact, the tire will be able to be returned to service. By taking these measures, the tire is less likely to be blown while out in the field, which would likely require a mobile repair service.

There is no limit to the number of times that a tire can be retreated. While they are most often retreated 3 or 4 times, they can be retreated for as long as the tire is still sound. The retreads are surprisingly reliable.

Make Sure Your Tires are Inflated Properly

The ideal inflation pressure is based on how much weight your truck will carry and the common speed that you will be traveling under. If you are traveling at a slower speed, you may be able to carry your cargo for longer with less wear. If your tires are not inflated properly, they will experience irregular wear.

Choose the Right Tire

Another key component of maximizing the life of a truck tire is to select the right tire in the first place. The type of tire you should select is based on the type of driving you will do. Will you be traveling under warmer or colder conditions? Will you be driving off-road or mostly on the high-way. At what speed will you mostly be traveling at. Your tires should be optimized for your route.
